Then he met Vanessa, a spirited young woman who came from a very different background. He was absolutely smitten with her, and she with him. But as they deepened their partnership and considered marriage, she began to insist that his “get out of my way so I can get this done my way” approach to life was not going to work for her. She felt subtly bullied and manipulated in ways she knew she couldn’t tolerate long term; she knew it would not work for him to be the man with whom she would raise children.

With classic Mars in Aries energy, Pat threw himself into seeking ways to transform the conditioning he had received from his family. He fought tooth and nail to learn better relationship skills: to hear and value others and to manage his impulsivity and impatience when others needed to be heard. In the process of learning to be the man he wanted to be in his relationship, he recognized that the best use of his extraordinary physical power was to build things that mattered to other people. He became one of the chief construction leaders for Habitat for Humanity.
